You will be involved in the imaging process from beginning to end. That means reviewing the order, confirming appropriate patient preparation, explaining the procedure, performing the exam, recognizing relevant anatomy and pathology, completing measurements and documentation, and making the study available for interpretation.

Because this is a Critical Access Hospital, strong clinical judgment matters. You will need to differentiate artifact from pathology, recognize abnormal findings, adjust technique when needed, and correlate what you see with the patient's clinical history. For experienced sonographers, that level of responsibility can make the work much more professionally satisfying.

The department also works closely with radiologists, physicians, outpatient providers, and other hospital teams. Rather than functioning as one person in a very large imaging operation, you will have the opportunity to build strong working relationships with the clinicians who rely on your studies.

What You'll Do

✔ Perform general diagnostic ultrasound examinations

✔ Complete abdominal, OB/GYN, small parts, venous, and carotid Doppler studies

✔ Correlate clinical history with the exam being performed

✔ Use 2-D, 3-D, M-mode, Doppler, and color flow techniques when appropriate

✔ Select appropriate transducers, technical settings, and imaging parameters

✔ Recognize normal anatomy, abnormal findings, and potential artifact

✔ Modify scanning technique when necessary to obtain diagnostic-quality images

✔ Educate and prepare patients for examinations

✔ Complete measurements, annotations, and required documentation

✔ Manage imaging workflow through RIS, PACS, and the hospital EHR

✔ Maintain infection-control and ultrasound equipment quality standards

✔ Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals

✔ Assist with cross-training or training in additional modalities when appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

Required

✔ Associate or bachelor's degree from an approved program

✔ Graduate education that meets Oregon requirements for Diagnostic Medical Sonography

✔ ARDMS certification or equivalent in Abdomen and/or OB/GYN

✔ Oregon Board of Medical Imaging license by start date

✔ Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification

✔ Ability to maintain required continuing education for applicable credentials

Preferred

One year of experience performing abdominal ultrasound examinations

One year of experience performing OB/GYN ultrasound examinations

Breast ultrasound experience
