You'll work with patients on dressing, bathing, toileting, meal preparation, household activities, mobility, safety, and other meaningful occupations. Rather than treating only what happens inside a therapy gym, you'll have the opportunity to understand how a patient's diagnosis actually impacts life at home and within the community.
The variety is a major advantage. Your caseload may include hospital inpatients, patients transitioning through swing-bed care, long-term care residents, and individuals receiving therapy in their home environment. That creates exposure to different diagnoses, functional levels, and rehabilitation goals while allowing you to build a broad clinical skill set.
Home-based care also gives you a perspective many therapists rarely get. You'll be able to evaluate the actual environment where a patient lives, identify fall risks, recommend modifications or adaptive equipment, and develop practical strategies that help patients remain as safe and independent as possible.
You'll also be part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team serving a rural community where rehabilitation professionals play an important role in continuity of care. Your recommendations matter, and collaboration with physicians, nurses, families, and other disciplines is part of everyday practice.

What You'll Do
✔ Evaluate functional abilities, limitations, safety concerns, and rehabilitation needs
✔ Develop individualized occupational therapy plans of care
✔ Help patients improve independence with activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living
✔ Provide therapeutic exercise, functional training, transfer training, and activity-based interventions
✔ Recommend adaptive equipment, environmental modifications, and fall-prevention strategies
✔ Educate patients, families, and caregivers on safe participation in daily activities
✔ Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed
✔ Coordinate care with physicians and other healthcare disciplines
✔ Support discharge planning and continuity of care across settings
✔ Maintain timely clinical documentation and regulatory compliance

Minimum Qualifications
Required
✔ Master's Degree
✔ Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program
✔ Oregon Occupational Therapy license in good standing
✔ Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association
Preferred
Experience across hospital, inpatient rehabilitation, home-based therapy, transitional care, or long-term care environments is welcomed.
